In award shows, particularly looking at the Academy Awards (the Oscars), there are awards for makeup as well as special effects. However, there are so many more aspects to special effects than is able to be presented in one simple award.
Why do you believe that special effect coordinators and others who work on effects don't get as much recognition as others such as actors or directors?
I don't think they get as much recognition because as the new generation is already used to special effects, they don't realize the importance of them in a movie. Unless they see a side by side comparison of a movie with and without special effects, they will not be able to appreciate the meticulous work of special effect artists. Also, actors are directly seen by the audience, and the director is the creator of the movie so they have to be given lots of credit. Basically, the people who get the most media publicity get the most recognition.
